Schematic Design

Penn Medicine's New Patient Pavilion (NPP) will provide a new clinical facility adding approximately 500 new beds, a relocated Emergency Department, provide approximately 50 operating and procedure rooms, and expand other health care delivery programs. Construction began in September 2016 and will progress through 2020, with occupancy projected for Spring of 2021.

Penn Medicine has a rich history of innovation beginning with the founding of the nation's first hospital by Dr. Benjamin Franklin. We continue to push for further integration and innovation with our project consultants. To that end, the project is using performance-based contract and Integrated Project Delivery (IPD). The basic IPD tenets such as collaboration, innovation, trust, performance-based gain, shared risk, BIM, pull planning, target cost delivery and transparency are being implemented in all aspects of the project.

The PennFIRST design and construction management team is working closely with Penn Medicine and Penn staff in simultaneously designing from the patient and caregiver's perspective (inside-out) as well as from the urban design perspective (outside-in).
